Saga of the Nine Worlds: The Gathering is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from AWESOME GRAPHICS BUT RATHER BORING STORYLINE When the Collector's Edition version was first released, I tried playing this game, but it just wasn't holding my attention. I ended up finishing the CE demo about a week later. I think the graphics are awesome, but the storyline just drags. In my opinion, this Standard Edition is the better value, because the CE version has absolutely nothing other than some tiles to find. Here's a recap of my review so that you can decide which version, if any is right for you. Apparently I am a Shield Maiden for the Princess. I'm pretty sure this is a job no one else wants, after all, a Shield Maiden basically takes a bullet for the Princess so she doesn't break a nail. Now we're not talking about a normal battle with other shield maidens (and arrow maidens I suppose) we're talking about protecting the Princess from a very angry, fire breathing dragon! There's no telling how many Shield Maidens have come before me, and by the end of the game, I'm not sure if either me or the Princess make it out alive. At one point, I think I actually died, all I know is after doing my shielding thing, I woke up in a boat with some strange old man who told me that 3 companions would be joining me on my quest. Quest! What Quest? The Princess is nowhere in sight, this is my chance to get out of Dodge, or at least away from the creepy old man! Now I'm told that I have to actually Uber these 3 companions, and I'll bet you anything, not a single one will chip in for boat gas! First I travel to the woods to fetch the Huntress. Wouldn't ya know it, I have to save the "huntress" from an angry pig, her resume isn't looking too good from my point of view, just saying. Next I'm off to see the Seer, and I've seen enough already! This dude has a few loose nuts and bolts because he has strapped a pair of giant antlers onto his back! Incredible he tells ME to prove myself worthy, I'm going to just let it go at that and agree that we don't "see" eye to eye. Finally I Uber my little boat over to the Skald. Turns out a Skald is a musician with a really bad attitude. Let's see now, I have a Huntress who can't hunt, a Seer who doesn't see straight, and a Skald, someone has a vivid imagination and it ain't the dragon! By now, I'm seriously considering defecting to the Dragons Team, so thankfully, the demo has ended.......but the Saga continues...... Usually I prefer the Collector's Edition versions because I like finding all the extra's, but the 37 Collectible Yggdrasil Tiles thrilled me about as much as the demo did, zilch! Probably because I don't like collecting things I can't pronounce. Apparently there are 8 collectible Characters, I didn't bother looking for them because I was too busy keeping an eye on that Seer fellow, I don't trust him. The Hidden Object Scenes were okay, but nothing thrilling. Most of the HOP's are in the form of finding Keywords, two of which involved a map, another was divided into 3 rooms. I did like the Interactive List find HOP on a Stained Glass Window that required you to strum 3 different strings to switch sections of the stained glass. The Mini Games were decent enough, and definitely the best part of the entire game. Below are brief descriptions of some of the games you'll encounter during the long, boring demo: 1) Recall the dragons attack pattern then press arrows to shield the blows. 2) Use different lengths of vines to repair a net. 3) Plan a strategy by choosing the logical item in equations. 4) Swap tokens along the connecting lines until each is next to its corresponding symbol. 5) Press arrows to align the outlines inside the crystal with the red lines in the rock. 6) Hang the crystals on the correct hooks so their shadow fills the outline on the wall. 7) Swap tiles so that the numbers on the equals the number of end points. 8) Drag the lines so that one of each symbol is contained within each of the 4 shield segments. 9) Pluck the strings in the correct order referencing the length of the snakes. 10) Connect pairs of the same symbols with lines that don't intersect. 11) Swap the arrows. The Collector's Edition has 4 Concept Art pictures, 8 Wallpapers, a Book of Origins Journal, 8 Collectible Characters, 37 Collectible Yggdrasil Tiles, 14 Movie Videos, 6 Music Soundtracks, 15 replayable Mini Games, 11 replayable Hidden Object Scenes, a built in Strategy Guide and a Bonus Chapter.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Frustrating I liked the plot behind the story, but deplored the lack of directions. Played about 1/2 an hour of the Demo and decided enough was enough. Hint button was virtually useless, so I wasted a good deal of time figuring out what to do next. I generally play in relaxed mode, because I hate timers, and this left me anything but relaxed. The length of time it took to load, and the boring cutscenes with wasted dialogue was also very distracting. At least you can skip thru all that. I would probably buy this as COTW or similar if I was desperate for a new game to play, but will give it a miss for now.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The only reason the screen shots look good, is because they are the ONLY scenes which ARE that good! Fuzzy graphics with lack of depth, dull and annoying characters. Once you arrive at the mountain of portals, at least 1 hour into the game, you get to go to the realm of Gimli, the graphics improve, and the story takes a sudden turn for the better. However, this doesn't last. In the next realm, the realm of Giants- no effort is made to make anybody or anything look giant! A complete missed opportunity! Also mostly the action in the game is completely non-intuitive. Any HOPS that I played had difficult to distinguish items. There were further realms to play, but I was so bored (not pleasantly relaxed) that I had to give them a miss. Yes there are plenty of puzzles, mostly easy, but I lost the will to try any of them. I have to say that the musician who keeps strumming the lyre is annoying. Not only him but the lyre itself. There is A LOT of conversation in this game. I skipped most of it. WHY are the graphics so dark? My ultra-bright computer is set to max and it's still too dim. One of the worst games I've played in a long time.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Another Game Super short version of story: Dragon attacks, you ALMOST fight back successfully, you awaken in a boat, go on a quest to find three companions, and then you will try to save the world. Good news: All the usual game elements are here. Bad news: The slow start to the story almost put me to sleep. The over stylized print style is aggravating and unnecessary to the story. A lot of that slow story gets caught up in the effort to add that "style" to everything in the game. There will be lots of dialog, puzzles that are over-easy or badly designed, and you will be unwillingly immersed in cartoon Norse culture. Bottom line: The beautiful artwork cannot save the ancient story and the trite games, so this all boils down to whether you want to save the world again while slogging through a slow story and the attendant details. Please try the demo for yourself.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A Game for People With Patience I never even finished the Demo which is unusual for me. The scenes take ages to load. First couple of mini games were bad as well. Eipix usually has good games but I think they must have bought other game makers and they are not always up to standard. This is one of those. Any game that takes 20 seconds to load a scene is not for me. Too annoying considering in these games you are constantly going to another scene. The game also took a long time to load.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The only good thing about this game is the Storyline I dragged myself though the whole game, so I know the storyline. The game play is terrible. Too bad I bought both games in CE before I tried them.
