Haunted Legends: Monstrous Alchemy Collector's Edition is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I USED TO LOVE THIS SERIES BUT IT MAY BE TIME TO RETIRE HAUNTED LEGENDS. This is the 12th edition of the Haunted Legend series. I love this series as a whole but when I knew that the next Haunted Legends sequel was launching, I did not have high expectations. The last few games in this never-ending series were dull and uninspiring with the exception of The Cursed Gift which was prior to Monstrous Alchemy. The storyline is this edition is less than revolutionary, but it managed to grab my interests and I was engaged all the way through. The story development allows for moments of excitement as well as suspense, which is ideal for a horror-lite game like this. However, the game could have reduced the amount of dialogue readings and still remained effective. This game features stellar sights and sounds, as one would expect from this veteran developer. The scene designs are spectacularly-drawn and stunningly-painted, so are the special effects and the animations. The audio does not disappoint either; the background music provides great atmospheric support for the game and the majority of the voice-overs are on-point. Nonetheless, Haunted Legends: Monstrous Alchemy has large rooms for improvement. Most of all, the gameplay involves far too much hand-holding. This leads to easy gameplay and predictable paths of actions. Also, the objects in the hidden object scenes are far too large –I rarely resorted to the hint button in these scenes. While we appreciate the option to switch between Hard and Easy modes in most of the puzzles, the underlying concepts behind these puzzles are still quite simple. AMAX Interactive could try thinking outside-the-box and layering different styles of puzzles with their future releases. I also was disappointed that Saint Germaine does not appear in this edition, but if I remember from correctly he was killed in the Cursed Gift. My hope is that AMAX miraculously manages to reignite the fire in this age-old series. I also hope this trend continues if AMAX still decides that Haunted Legends is a keeper. While some editions of this series are better than others I decided to give this installment of Haunted Legends 5 stars because of the originality and concept of the entire series. Cheers! The entire collection so far: •Haunted Legends: The Queen of Spades •Haunted Legends: The Bronze Horseman •Haunted Legends: The Undertaker •Haunted Legends: The Curse of Vox •Haunted Legends: The Stone Guest •Haunted Legends: The Dark Wishes •Haunted Legends: The Secret of Life •Haunted Legends: The Iron Mask •Haunted Legends: Faulty Creatures •Haunted Legends: The Black Hawk •Haunted Legends: The Cursed Gift •Haunted Legends: Monstrous Alchemy

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Complete game played. LOVED IT! I absolutely loved playing this game! I normally do not buy the CE versions but I was having so much fun during the demo and we had a ridiculously good sale here on BF I decided to go ahead an purchase. I'm so glad I did because I enjoyed the game very much! I started playing last night and finished up the game today, I played pretty much non-stop because I was just having such a good time. The flow of the game was wonderful, the visuals, scenes, graphics were top notch, the games were somewhat different and fun which is saying a lot because I normally skip most of them. There were some hidden object puzzles done in a very different way and then there were the regular interactive ones we've seen before. The music was pretty nice and fitting for the scenes. I love the different sounds the game makes when you pick things up or get things for your inventory. The storyline was consistent you knew what you were doing and why which is always a plus for me. There were a few moments that I got a good quick scare too! Saint Germain the Dwarf was oddly missing from this game.? I personally didn't miss him lol The game was not too easy it did have some challenges but it wasn't overly taxing it was hard enough to be fun, easy enough to bring relaxing enjoyment. I recommend this game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun and Challenging Based on the Demo. This game is the bomb. The graphics were great: some were bright and beautiful, some dark and creepy. They were all very well done. The soundtrack was clear, appropriately creepy when it needed to be. The instructions were generally very clear and easy to understand. The hidden object scenes were fun. There were crystal apples to collect that added to the fun and challenge of the game. It was filled with great mini puzzles. Some of them were very challenging. I had to skip a few because they were taking me to long to finish, but this was an immediate buy for me, so I am determined to go back and complete them all. The game was extremely creative and original. There was something to do every minute. Some of the items that I found had very creative and original uses, which added to the fun. This is a five star masterpiece that I found very enjoyable to play.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Decent Game I found this game rather enjoyable to play, without taxing my brain too much. Although I am getting tired of hidden object games that use searching for endless symbols everywhere just to progress, based on the demo, this one wasn't so bad. The game play was fairly linear, the hidden object puzzles varied between easy and moderately challenging, and some of the mini games were quite unique, however at times the instructions a bit vague. The graphics, although somewhat cartoon-ish, were clear and concise, without being dark. All in all, an decent way to spend some free time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from "Alors!" The game is afoot! The amusing and delightfully scrappy St. Germaine is no longer with us, but another weird creature, a craven minion of the dark, pops up to serve us, or so it seems. He is a pretty wimpy character but does present the type of peasantry that were so abused at that time. Cardinal Richileau is back, manipulative and brilliant as ever with his nasty cat (brilliant at it as well:) This time we must save Princess Isabella of Spain who has been scrobbled by an evil something. Plots, counter plots, this has the feeling of an interval story that will take us on further journeys. Alors! The game is afoot! I miss the acidity and humor of St. Germaine, but the fascinating incredible city of Paris is still there, although much reduced. Tiny glimpses of the poverty of the average citizen let’s you know why there was a revolution. There is a sub game going on during/after the game. The collectibles are glowing balls and you have to find all of them to earn coins to clothe you as 3 different adventurers, where you play firstly a grand lady, then a nun, then a Musketeer. I didn’t have quite enough coins to clothe the Musketeer, so I couldn't play that story; but the first two were fun, (rather like those books "create your own adventure books" where you choose the action). Altogether a satisfactory game in a series I like, but I’m hoping it will be better in the next game. This one sort of whimpered out at the end, with a totally not related puzzle game to defeat the villain. CE worth it for those of us who like the series. And the bonus game does give hints as to where future games may go.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but not really challenging I liked the idea of the game and really enjoy the story, but there's something, it's not really challenging, even in hard mode the puzzle want take more than 2 minutes. So it's relaxing and nice, but I would appreciate more challenge :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worth a Play! I enjoyed this game despite the fact there were many times I had to use 'skip' because being neurologically challenged and thus a klutz I could not stay within boundaries. I figure if these types of obstacles are popular to some I just enjoy what I can manage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Intrigue, black magic, old aquanintances....... Meet again with the Cardinal (and his cat). Isabella of Spain was to marry the French Prince but she suddenly disappeared. Only clue: an envelope with the Fontainebleau crest on it was left at her quarters. The Royal Musketeers were given the task to search for her but now they have gone missing as well. The Fontainebleaus were once a powerful family but were accused of practising black magic. So the Pope pressured the King to strip them of their title. Apparently there is some truth to the rumor, as they seemed to have created a monster. Our task: Go to the island, where the family lives now and find the Princess…. On the island we see a woman, meeting the description of missing Isabella. We instantly follow. When she vanishes in direction of the castle, we have to find a way in. Trying to get into the castle, we find a strange hunchbacked man, Pascal. He was supposed to look after the Princess but when he saw the monster, he panicked and ran away. After a making our way first into the castle, then through the catacombs to the other side and to the tower, we have a real surprise: on entering the chamber, in which we saw Isabella sitting on a bed, Pascal locks a grilled door and just tells us, we would understand soon… Then a woman, who changes into a monstrous figure comes nearer. Again a story about intrigue, a once powerful family, now in disgrace and apparently using every means to return the lost. A princess, used to regain it with black magic – in all this, we are a pawn, who has to save the princess and himself. During the demo we do not meet the usual dwarf count St Germain but are introduced to a new character – Pascal, who seems to have taken the role as helper of the dark side. All packed in beautiful visuals, variable HOS and relatively challenging puzzles – a Haunted Legend with the known but also new details to the paranormal story.
