Edge of Reality: Call of the Hills is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from AMAZING STORY BUT I PREFER THE CE COLLECTIBLES Completed Game approximately 5.0 hours (including completion of all mini-games & CE Bonus Chapter) 18 Scene Locations +8 CE Bonus Chapter Difficulty Range: Beginner-Intermediate I could tell you a bit about the storyline, I could. But I'd rather tell you about how HOPA games have made me feel lately, and why this game was different! Lately, they bore me, they all have predictable stories with unimaginative plots. Call of the Hills seemed that way at first...but man, did I get a plot shock! They all have the same repetitive tasks, over and over, back and forth, seems like the boringness will never end and the scenes are so alike, I can't tell one game from the next...but man, this is one beautiful game! I couldn't wait to see what beautiful scene was waiting for me next! Then there are the collectibles, you know the ones, the same ole same ole, the morphing objects that are the size of cars and morph into an out of place object that scream "look at me" and collectibles that are just "clickables"?...but this game has beautiful opaque elves and morphs that make you pause, and stare at the beautiful scenery because they aren't so easily spotted because they are exactly what they are supposed to be...an ADDED CHALLENGE! Now I did find fault with the level of challenge in the fact that you only have to search one scene at a time in most cases. It's pretty hard not to figure out a game when everything is neatly organized into one or 2 scenes at the most. I also thought the mini-games and hidden object scenes could have been more creative. But if you are looking for a game with beautiful graphics and one heck of a story that is full of surprises, and may even bring a tear or two to your eyes...look no further! Job well done Friendly Fox Studios :) Collectibles/Morphing Objects: Each scene has 2 of those famous Friendly Fox Opaque Collectibles (5 different Glass Elves unlocked at 5-10-22-37-52) They are beautiful little elves that I loved searching for and I hope they never abandon this feature! Each scene also has 2 Morphing Objects, some of the scene morphs are well-hidden and they morph at a decent pace, although I would love to see them a little bit smaller for a little added challenge :) Gadget/Helper: There is a Gadget and a Helper. An Irish Setter that is used to dig up an item 5 times and an Amulet Gadget that is used 5 times as well in the Main Chapter. The Amulet is used to search the scene for 5 runes each time you find a new bead, this was the most worthless gadget of all time, the "runes" were so easy to spot, not to mention that there were only 5 of them made it seem like a chore rather than an additional feature intended to delight the player. Hidden Object Scenes: There are 17 Hidden Object Scenes +5 in the CE Bonus Chapter. The HO scenes were just okay, some of them were actually kind of boring and the items were very easy to spot. There are Interactive List Finds, Keywords in Sentence Finds, Find and Replace Items, Spot the Difference Finds, Multiples of the Same or Similar Object, Opposites, and a very simplistic and repetitive HOP associated with the Amulet Gadget where you are tasked with finding 5 Runes in a scene. Mini-Games: There are 38 Mini-Games +10 in the CE Bonus Chapter. Many of these games are tasks with directions rather than actual games, they are simple to solve such as entering codes shown on a piece of paper, putting fragments together, matching pairs of objects, or choosing objects in a specific order by trial and error...and they are not skippable! (this may upset a lot of players, but they really are easy tasks) Here are a few of my personal favorites: 1-Place figurines so that they don't share the same diagonal, horizontal, or vertical lines. 2-Select objects to place in a grid. 3-Use all numbered tiles to move through the maze. 4-Toggle various sliders to aim the target. Bonus Chapter: (CE version only) The story continues the World of Seeds as a rebellion takes place against the King and Cathrine tries to put the pieces together of her family secret while helping the King restore his Kingdom in this average-length chapter that takes place over 8 Scene Locations. This is one of the few Bonus Chapters that held my interest, the developers were wise to continue this story to help us put the pieces together, rather than go off on another adventure with a different character or go back in time! There are 10 Mini-Games and 5 Hidden Object Scenes and you will continue searching for 2 Opaque Elves and 2 Morphing Objects per scene which will unlock the final 2 Glass Elves in your collection. Collector's Edition Extra's 10 Wallpapers (all w/characters) 13 Concept Art Pictures, 5 Screensavers, 5 Music Soundtracks, 23 Movie Video Cutscenes, 15 Achievements, 17 Replayable Hidden Object Scenes, 13 Replayable Mini-Games, 52 Opaque Elves (2 per scene) 52 Morphing Objects (2 per scene) 4 Main Chapters +Bonus Chapter and a Built-In Strategy Guide. Rated 4 out of 5 by from ~~EXCELLENT EDITION TO SERIES, GREAT STORY & GORGEOUS GRAPHICS!~~ This is Edition #7 of the Edge of Reality Series and the storyline is an entertaining mix of fantasy, modern-day elements and great game play. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this latest edition from start to finish and would also add that this game is equal to or better than Edge of Reality: Fatal Luck (which is my personal favorite) which was launched in 2018. Personally, as far as the Edge of Reality series goes, none of the sequels have yet to top Edge of Reality: Fatal Luck for me until this latest installment! When I began playing Call of the Hills, I was somewhat confused because in the opening I saw Friendly Fox was the developer and all the previous installments were developed by 4 Friends Game developers.. That doesn't really matter because this game still has the look and gameplay elements we've all grown to love from 4 Friends development team only better! Maybe they needed a change or collaborated with Friendly Fox? With respect to the Gameplay and Story The core Gameplay is familiar but the Story is intriguing, fresh and new. Also there are enough interesting hidden object scenes and puzzles to hold the attention of even the most seasoned HOPA players even though the game was created for Beginner-Intermediate players . The game also features an array of non-tasks-related interactive elements in the scenes, which are really quite fun to explore. Also the glasses gadget, that allows the protagonist talk to animals (which have always been a part of the previous games) has been replace with an Irish Setter dog helper / companion. I thought that was an excellent idea and the glasses needed to be retired anyway because of over-usage. The other gadget is an Antique Amulet given to you by your Grandfather which you'll need for protection or else you'll never be able to help save your sister in the Hills of Ireland from a Sinister Villain! The intricate and colorful artwork, along with the flawless animations were enough to immerse me in the game but it was the Story that held my interest the most....it's a terrific story which may even make some players a little emotional (it was for me anyway). The traditional musical scores are really effective in creating a very lived-in world which makes you feel like your truly in Ireland and this game has some of the most stunning and detailed location designs I have seen in quite some time, there is just so much to marvel at in each location. Should you chose SE or CE (I chose the CE). So, if you like this series I highly recommend you play this one because it's better or equal to past editions and totally worth playing if your looking for a creative, casual game to play. I was able to complete the Collector's Edition main game in a little over 5 hours and another hour for the bonus chapter. Cheers! Also in this Series: Edge of Reality: Ring of Destiny Edge of Reality: Lethal Predictions Edge of Reality: Fatal Luck Edge of Reality: Hunter's Legacy Edge of Reality: Great Deeds Edge of Reality: Mark of Fate Edge of Reality: Call of the Hills
