Cave Quest 2 is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from THEY HAVE RAISED THE BAR ON MATCH 3 GAMES~A BAR THAT OTHER DEVELOPERS MUST STRIVE TO ACHIEVE! There aren't many games lately that I become so engrossed in the demo that when the demo ends, it takes me by surprise and I'm scrambling to hit the "Buy Now" button...but this game did exactly that! The creativeness of this game has raised the bar to a standard that other developers must now strive to achieve! There are so many different aspects to this game that one can't help but be entertained. It is a Hidden Object game, a Match 3 game, a Battle game, a Quest-based game, an Adventure game, and a Strategy game all in one. You can play in an Easy, Normal, or Hard mode of difficulty and you can choose to play the Match 3 games in a Limited Time or Limited Moves Mode as well. You begin your journey by walking which is in the form of a Match 3 game that requires you to make matches on a path to move the character (shown as a hat) along the path to the top of the board. This scenario was my favorite part! After completing the Match 3 game, you'll continue your adventure by searching for Inventory Items in each scene along your way. You'll have to figure out how and where to use those items to progress, for example, you may have to remove cobwebs, open doors, and move carts, but the tasks aren't necessarily easy to figure out because sometimes the solution isn't obvious. Once you solve a task, a different variation of the Match 3 game will open up with obstacles that are theme-related to the task, such as cobwebs or spiderwebs that block some tiles. When you make a Match 4 or larger, you will gain an extra move or time. As you progress, you are given the opportunity to "Learn" a new Skill which is basically a power-up that places bombs on the board or allows you to remove a single tile, or pushes tokens out of your path like a hurricane. When you come across a Beast or Demon, you'll first have to figure out which inventory item is necessary, then you play a Battle Mode Match 3 game where you take turns against your opponent. Collecting Red Crystals drains your opponent but it also drains your energy if the opponent matches red crystals. Normally, I would tell people to wait for the Standard Edition of a Match 3 game, but I can assure you that if you love a great M3 game, and you enjoyed this demo, you WILL want the CE version just for the fact that there are added bonus levels. Nobody wants the game to end, it's that good! I have talked with several M3 fans on my forum and they, like me, are totally addicted to this game...many of them are playing the game on every difficulty mode so it has great re-playability! The Collector's Edition version has 15 Wallpapers, Concept Art (available after completing the game) 15 Music Soundtracks (12 regular and 3 CE Bonus tracks) 4 extra Records Trophies (shown in %'s) 16 Characters, 15 Beasts & Demons, a Bonus Chapter and a Strategy Guide. Please join us at my new forum, to discuss games, meet new friends and catch up with familiar ones from days gone by at thewoodsforum.boards.net ...hope to see you there!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Personally I prefer the CE but this is still a winner Although I have the CE I tried the demo on this to see what differences there were. You get the 4 chapters with this one and no extensive guide Others have explained the ins and outs of this game so will not dwell on that. That guide was not very explanative regarding the magic potions and the bubbles, I only came across this by accident fairly early but know others took a while to find it. You need to connect 3 bubbles together to increase the bubbles to 100%, You need to clean out all the dirty bubbles. If you connect the clean bubbles they too will add up to 100% before bursting. At first it seems a waste of time connecting the clean bubbles however the further you proceed in the game you will find pumice stones which will clear blockages. Now when you get 100% on either dirty or clean bubbles you get an extra pumice stone. Please note I played this on easy so it may take too long on a harder level to connect clean bubbles I was interested to see that some were finding the game lagging on harder modes, I did not have that problem on my 64 bit machine so out of curiosity I loaded it on to my older 32 bit machine and it worked fine until I went into a timed mode then the lagging started and it became almost unplayable. I switched back to easy and no trouble at all. I am now back with my 64 Bit and this is such an amazing game. What I love about this is you can switch modes after each level so if you find it too taxing you can change for an easier mode without having to start again As you get further in to this the battle scenes become more interesting and yes you can replay that level harder or easier depending on where you are. This is a great challenge even on the easier mode and so well thought out. I even like the music, he guide is only available in the CE I just could not wait to buy this, this is a match 3 made in heaven for me with so much more than the normal offerings in a match 3. Try the demo and see what you think. Personally I would start in easy mode just so you can get as far as possible. Regarding the comment about getting no extra time in the CE reviews, at first you may not realise it but when you match 4 you get 3 extra seconds which when you match 5 should give 4 or 5 seconds but can't be sure of that. This time is automatically added which you may not realise. All in this is one gem of a game and Dev's please can we not have to wait nearly 10 years for the next one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not A Childish Little Match 3 Match 3, HOs, challenge, strategy, adventure, quests, battle, story, collectibles. All here in this awesome Match 3 game! The original arrived 10 years ago, it was fabulous at that time and the devs have made this new version even more entertaining. Rarely is a sequel so satisfying. They are usually a big flop clearly thrown together with no effort or imagination. I wasn't bored a minute with this one, it was really fun and I think it will be very enjoyable for most of you. I was happy playing in Relaxed Mode since rushing sometimes stresses me, but the challenge was still intact. The adventure was fun as I searched for the thief who stole a mysterious relic from the abbey. It must be retrieved before it is given over to the sinister underworld which made this a worthwhile mission and a good incentive to succeed. I love when a good little story is included. I bought the CE with 40 extra levels, being so eager to play. We've been without a great Match 3 game for far too long. But I'm sure I would have been just as pleased with the SE. Try the demo, especially if you've not played the first Cave Quest. Sample that one, too, and you just might agree that we have a winner here!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Match 3 Can Be a Really Good SE As a member of the Monestery, you are concerned when the Sacred Relic is stolen. You are even more concerned when the apparent thief is determined by the Head to be your sister! You set out to catch up to her in hopes of recovering the Relic. Good stuff: There are lots of Match 3's with a few puzzles intersperced to make things interesting. The three levels of play keep the game interesting and the map and hint are helpful. The Match 3's have a compass at the right bottom corner of the screen that determines the direction pieces move when you make a match. This can be a great help - Or not. Keep an eye on that compass. The story is present if you need a reason for your journey and gives you areas to explore and things to do, usually with a Match 3. There are opponents to battle. Each battle is a Match 3. Bad stuff: The artwork is not great. And the story is incidental to the game, not integral. Beyond that, I've got nothing. My review of the questionable CE version of this game asked if a Match 3 game could be a CE. The answer for Cave Quest 2 Ce was No. As an SE, the same game is a really good game and with a coupon, it's a great value! Give the Demo a try and see what you think!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant Game I played the CE of this and was absolutely blown away by it. This is a match 3 that delivers. I was totally absorbed by it. This is what a match 3 should be. As one reviewer said this has raised the bar and it will be interesting to see if others follow. Let's hope we don't have to wait to long for Cave Quest 3.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FANTASTIC GAME I echo every positive review of this game. It has everything: adventure, match-3, battles, hidden objects, interaction with characters. This game raises the bar for other developers. I recently found the older first Cave game and thought it couldn't get better -- but this one certainly did!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Match Game!!! Played on "normal". It has variety and variety and variety. So refreshing, away from the cookie-cutter formats. I especially LOVE that the boards change if you "fail". This game has so much in it that time passes in a blink; I am a true addict of this game! Okay, now back to the game... :))

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An absorbing Franken-game. Here we have a M3 with an interesting backstory which actually captured my interest and held it. The game is repetitive in places but I played it for 18 hours straight and finished it the next day. In addition to being a M3, the designers have elements of adventure and hidden objects mixed in like some Frankenstein game, but it worked for me. I was totally absorbed by the game.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loved it! This is the first time I've written a review and its because this has got to be the best game of this type that I have ever played. Others have gone over all the details of this game, so I will skip that. I love the variety of mini games and the style of match 3 games. The choice of level dificulties is a plus and I haven't tried the hard mode yet, but I will. I have the Collectors edition and its the first Collector game I've purchased that I actually felt that It was money well spent. I've already gone through this game at least 4 times...Bonus chapters as well, and I have to say that the replay value is high with this game. I am looking forward to more and more of these. Please keep the variety coming and I'll keep on buying the Collector version. Thanks for the fun!
