Dark Mysteries: The Soul Keeper is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 45.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from What an excellent game! I'd bought this game after playing the demo a long time ago but never got around to play the rest of it until now. What a fun trip that was! I know the game is considered "old" by today's standards but that suits me just fine, as it has all the things I look for in a fun game. It has an engaging story (based on a real book), absolutely gorgeous colorful graphics, moody ambient sounds, atmospheric music, and something I've never yet seen before. Within the journal there's a progressive hint system that you can choose to access as the need arises, or you can continue using the regular hint that will offer directional assistance as well as pointing you to the area needing attention within a scene. Both are always available to you and being as there's no map, they are valuable in providing where to go. As someone who enjoys the wandering around myself, this game provides the adventure aspect I crave when playing games such as this one. Gameplay is logical and collected items make sense as to where you need to use them. Although the HO scenes are repeated, you always get new items to find so it never becomes boring. I enjoyed this game so much, I am sure I'll be replaying it soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 25+ HOPS - Eye candy delight! Option to adjust resolution - to 1600 x 900 (if your computer has it) (Available at BFG since 2013 ) Wander the island of Pawtuxet to help some trapped souls! Tons of HOPS of GREAT VISUAL QUALITY. The scenes themselves had depth, great construction and were clear and detailed. GRAPHICS: The option to change resolution to 1600 x 900 really brought out all the glory of the graphics - lots of light and dark and glowing highlights. Full screen OR widescreen. Visibility is good! SOUND: 3 - Music can be silenced, but is quite nice for a while. Effects and Voice were fine, with rain and thunder and other appropriate effects. (There was one very strange occurrence - many times when I played a HOPS - there would be this weird, disgusting, creepy-crawly, jelly noise, which was kind of repulsive! I got into the habit of moving my earphones off my ears, during those scenes.) HOPS: 25+ HOPS. Excellent visibility. Gorgeous to look at (at least 95% of them were).Straightforward wordlists, with some items hidden. Eye candy delight. PUZZLES: A few. They are pretty straightforward. DIFFICULTIES: 3 levels of difficulty. You CAN CHANGE difficulty level during game play as well. HINT: Will guide and lead you . JOURNAL: Yes MAP: NONE INVENTORY: Not lockable CHARACTERS: Very little interaction. Mouth movement but not lip-sync. Good voice-overs though!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bravo! What fun to play this game. It was beautiful, great graphics, lots of interesting Hidden Object mini games and very long. The game was filled with many different locations to interact in. So many, it could of used a map!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good! Nice graphics, well done HOS, interesting puzzles, good length, chance to use your memory skills and no sparkles (neither HOS ) in hard mode. I couldn’t ask for more in a SE.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OUTSTANDING & SPOOKY Spooky, including realistic thunder and rain. Artistry looks handdrawn and there are many beautiful locations. Your journal includes story and objects, with up to 4 hints to narrow what to do to achieve objectives if stuck. I like this method of hints rather than have the game just point out what you have to do right away. Sometimes a little nudge is all the help I need to feel smarter solving a problem if I still have to do most of the work myself. Story is skillfully told and it’s obvious that a lot of work went into bringing all the pieces together into well-constructed gameplay. HOS are very nicely done and the puzzles vary in variety and difficulty. Won’t bother going into more details as others have already done so. CE vs. SE: Wondering whether you should get the CE or the SE? The CE has, of course, a bonus game. It also has the e-book you can download to your reader or as a pdf if you haven’t read the story. The concept art is very nicely done – it has much more detail than most concept arts included in games. There is a sketch of what the location is to look like, for example, in black and white – then there is a fully colored version of what it will look like in the game. I liked the ability to see how the sketch came to life. The behind-the-scenes in making the video was also very well done. I found it most interesting to see the actual people involved and what their contributions were. What? No women work there?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from this is a great HO game the hint/skip button charges really fast. no map. not really needed. there is a diary. played casual. no sound. this is based on a book i have never read it so i don't know how much it followed the book. the guy in the game brought back his ancestor and then the ancestor had to have people's souls to continue to live in the present time, but the descendent had no idea this was going to happen. is set up for a sequel. HO scenes are very plain. had no problem finding things. not too dark and dreary. things that had to be done were pretty straight forward way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hidden Gem This is a more "old fashioned " game- the graphics are not as sophisticated as some newer games, but having said that, I really enjoyed. It was a sweet surprise, the story was fun, the challenge good and even though there were a few more HOG than I would have liked, I still loved it. I definitely recommend it

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fun game. Finally good music background Really enjoyed this game. I've noticed, like several other reviewers, several games have no backgound music. I won't buy a game with no music in the background, something I hadn't paid a lot of attention to until I downloaded one with utter silence in the background. I didn't finish the sample. This game has it all, really good graphics, music, and story line. Hope u keep these coming. Worth buying.
