Forgotten Kingdoms: Dream of Ruin Collector's Edition is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 72.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I LOVED this game!!! I just finished the Collector's Edition, including the Bonus Game. I LOVED this game!!! I am like many of those who either loved this game or really liked it ... I honestly, don't understand the complaints, either. I must admit, I have been playing some mighty, dark HOAs, lately and for me, this was a breathe of fresh air!!! Please, I have also, enjoyed playing my darker HOAs, but, a person just needs a break, now and then, right? The music was awesome and went with the story line. I felt, it just might have been original music, for this game, but, I could be very wrong. It just felt so right, throughout the game. I also, could see Forgotten Kingdoms development team, creating a sequel to this game. I played the Bonus Game, to completion. In my book, this game warrants another one. Another thing, that I liked about this game, the Adventure part of the game, moving back and forth, as well as left and right ... Was minimal to average, compared to many others that I have played. The Map was very important, by using it, you could see where your Objectives/Goals were, so that you could continue with the story, more logically. I played in the Causal Mode. I like to play in that mode, because I can then honestly, recommend the game to Beginners. If, I find that the Causal Mode is so hard, that I have a lot of difficulties, doing much of anything ... I never would recommend for Beginner Players and would honestly, warn the Intermediate Players. To me, that kind of game, would definitely be really, only for the Advance Players!!! For those, who prefer not to buy or play the Collector's Editions of any game ... I personally think, you are missing out on a lot of good stuff. I love playing the Bonus Game, when they have one. I am highly, disappointed when there isn't a Bonus Game. I also, like going over the Puzzles and HOS, again. Some of the Puzzles in every HOA game, just stump me, completely!!! So, I like to try them, again, to see if, I can complete them ... Unless, they are like Sudoku Puzzle ... I will never get them right! I have tried and tried and tried and tried, until I have learned to stop my frustration, by simply hitting the SKIP!!! LOL I know that, this game has been out for awhile, but, for those who thought it may not be that good ... Please, give it a try. The story line is great and the game is really fun to play.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely and a challenge too! this was just plain fun, and it was gorgeous too. many people complain that it was too hard - but it comes with a guide! i really like the whole story line, and it seemed new to me - your life is linked to that of a dying princess, so if she dies, you do too! you must find out all sorts of history along the way, and YES you have to think about what to do next. it isn't just a doddle - it's a thinking person's game. but if you get stuck, the guide is right there! good voice acting, truly beautiful graphics, and hey, you get to ride on a flying tiger! lots of fun this one! can't hurt to give it a try.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No hand holding Finally!! a game that offered some challenge! I never thought we would see another. These dev's were listening to all the whining about the childlike simplicity of recent games. I played this in advanced and it was really good. There were collectibles and they were not easy to find. They didn't jump right out at you when you entered the scene. You actually had to hunt for them. yayy! The HO scenes were similar. Made more difficult by the achievements 1 HO without mistakes.. 5 HO's without mistakes and finish HO's in one minute. I never did achieve the minute ones. There were also abilities to use. And the game DID NOT tell you when to use them. Bravo. Sometimes I would check the jump map for where to go next and it would show nothing. I figured out that was when I needed to go back and figure out where to use an ability. FOR MYSELF. I did notice rather late in the game that they glowed slightly. The mini games were truly a range. Some were very easy and some I laboured over. But it was a labour of love. I love challenging mini games. Moving colors around, pushing turtles to form a bridge and making lines with lights just to name a few of the more challenging ones. This game was also long which earns it an extra star in my book. The extra chapter had some very good mini games as well. The storyline was pretty good. A jealous heir tries to pit the other two against each other in order to get everything. It is told in a series of cut scenes which included putting pieces back into the scene.. similar to what we have seen in other recent games. The VO's were a little hokey but aren't they always? I loved the flying tiger.. our means of transportation. Overall this game took a lot time. effort and imagination and I for one, loved it. If you are tired of being told exactly what to do next and are looking for something with some challenge to really sink your teeth into, then this is the game for you. Enjoy!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No Ruin for Me The reviewers who gave 4-5 start are right. Game is not easy and I played in the easy mode. New twists on old mini-games as well as some new mini-games. HO, while minimal junk piles, are still not easy to find. Good story line, enjoyable characters, not intrusive music, lovely graphics. All this just from the demo. This game deserved better ratings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Game This game took awhile. There are no real clues, and I am glad there weren't. Because it there were I certainly would have used them! But, I didn't and it was a great game!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bravo!! What a fantastic game. A round of applause for the developers. This is absolutely a fun, no hand holding and challenging game. The puzzles are quite unique (requires you to put on your thinking cap) and the storyline keeps me wanting to find out more what's next. After finishing this game I actually proceeded to purchase almost all of the games developed by Vast Studios. Can't wait to play their other adventure games.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't write off this Dream as a Nightmare just yet Even though it wasn't the intention of the developers to make this such a challenge for everyone because the instructions in the pop-up windows are missing, I'm glad to see more positive reviews appearing now because this is a beautiful game. The story is interesting and not the run of the mill, music is beautifully haunting and fitting, graphics are lovely and I got to fly on one of my favourite animals! At first it was a little odd to see only gears, but then I realised how reliant I had become on the type of hints we usually roll our eyes at, such as "I need a key" or "I could melt something here". An expert or intermediate player shouldn't really have any problems getting through this. The game puts the "A" in a HOPA more firmly in the large file adventure genre, where there is no hand-holding. For someone new to a HOPA, however, it may be best to try another game first. I won't elaborate as I know many are waiting for the fix and I don't want to spoil any of it. I'll only say, try it and give your brain a good workout if you feel like it, because it's a lovely game that I don't think should be written off as a dud because of the accidental challenge it throws down. And my other challenge with it is to see how much I will actually like the 'fixed' version.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Challenging Fun and Interesting Immersive Game I loved the demo, buying the game now. I normally wouldn't review just the demo (I've never reviewed at all and I have over 200 of these games) but felt compelled to jump in here with my 2 cents. This is a good game! I'm happy to see and play a game like this, something that doesn't constantly tell me that something is needed or even what is needed. I can see! I know that something is needed and I don't mind, when stuck, trying different things in my inventory. Constant black bar tips and comments in a game take away from free thinking and the ability to be "in" the world. I love that this game did not have that. I felt immersed in this game and as a consequence the world seems more real. It's so refreshing to not feel like I'm playing a game for kids. I want to use my brain when I play a game, I don't just want a mindless following experience. That said, this game is not too hard.. it's a great level of challenge that is accessible for most anyone who is familiar with these types of games. I normally don't go for the fantasy type games, I like the gritty scary games, but the uniqueness of game play and the lack of cutesy stuff won me over. It's not a purple and pink game. What I liked - Level of challenge (I played on the middle level, there are 3) Interesting story (it's a save the princess game, but my life is also at stake and there is a mystery to solve) Nice and new puzzles HOS are clear and fun (and not too numerous) Cool Magical gauntlet that lets me set things on fire and promises to let me do more things as I learn them Finding hidden cards in each scene Logical tasks (it's still a fantasy game, there are still strange keys and some tasks to do for others before I can progress, but none of the tasks in the demo were ridiculous - I never had to do anything that didn't seem to fit) What I didn't like - Would have liked lip sync in the voice overs, but no big deal Some of the voice overs are not spectacularly acted, but they aren't too bad Really didn't like the lack of subtitles in some of the "transporting" type, history sequences. my hearing is bad and even with headphones I can't understand a lot of what was said and feel cheated that I missed that part of the back story. Try it if you are up for a challenge, like adventure games and are tired (as I definitely am) of the standard, easy mindless fare. It's not perfect, it's not my favorite game, but it's by no means the stinker that some have stated. I like it much more that the typical same old cranked out (but somehow still highly rated!) games that don't keep your interest and simply pass time. This is a lot to say with only the demo played, but as long as the rest of it is as good as the first 90 minutes, then I'd stand by it.
