Rated 5 out of 5 by from DON'T PLAY WITH A DRINK IN YOUR HAND!!! I thought this game was very original and a lot of fun. It gets a bad rap because people find it difficult, but it's not that bad. In the beginning you get lots of hints and are always able to skip puzzles. Toward the end when hints become scarce, there are video walk-throughs on youtube that will help you out. This game was the closest I've EVER seen a game come to feeling like you're in a haunted house. There are many things that will randomly jump out and scare you, so be prepared! My family thought it was hilarious that I would randomly scream out while playing this game. One more note: I saw someone in the forum complaining that this game mocks people with mental illnesses, but I respectfully disagree. This was simply a fun, jump out and say boo, haunted house kind of a game. It indicated nothing about mental illness, except when it mentioned depression in the beginning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a fun game! This game is not for everyone! Definitely try the demo. For me it was pure action, pure heart attack and so fun to play! I wish the house and furniture looked more real but that's my only complaint. It's mostly jump out and startle you while solving puzzles but I love it. I hope they make a sequel!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW! As a true HOP gamer I am always looking for the great ones...ones with challenge and not cookie-cutter formats. I had read comments that this game was really more of an adventure game, and a hide-and-seek variety, so shouldn't be listed as a HOP, but there were some HOP type scenes in it, so I guess it should be included in the genre. This game took me back to games I used to play more than a decade ago...not so much of a storyline and interaction with characters type, but more of a figure-it-out-for-yourself adventure. I was immediately hooked on it!! As was my husband. We played in tandem from start to finish, and I am looking forward to playing it again. I hope we will see more games like this!!! Overall, the graphics were nice and sharp; good sound; characters appeared infrequently and had minimal, but helpful, messages to pass along in pleasing voices. There were some surprising events (will not spoil them for you); some things change unexpectedly in response to actions taken elsewhere. There is no map, but there is a limited area to cover so it isn't a big deal; no hints are available unless you play in the lesser of the two game play modes, and even those can keep you guessing in a teasing way. To quote another reviewer, there is no handholding in this game...it is all challenge! Please, please, PLEASE give us some more games like this one!! I can't even imagine what a CE version would be like!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hard as h3!! Wow, definitely was surprised this was categorized under hidden object, however this is much different from the games I play and it startled me at every corner! (I get spooked easily, but love that stuff!) This isn't a really hard game, BUT some of the letters are difficult to find.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from great game - something different I rarely review, but had to with this one. Cadenza: Murder, Betrayal and Death was my favorite, but maybe this one is now. This is something different, fun, challenging and lasts a fairly long time. I really wish there were more games like this; something outside the box. a side note: so wonderful to be free of hidden objects! this game is really worth buying. It's going to be hard to go back to the usual fare.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Waited a long time for this type of game! I was really beginning to wonder if I would be buying another computer game, but I found "The Emptiness" and bought it as soon as the trial was over. The two games that have always stuck out in my mind were the MCF games (but not the last two games) and Witches Prison and Turning Thorn. No other games have been as fun until this one. ABOUT TIME BIG FISH!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Which door will you enter? I love this game. If your looking for a game will make really think, a HOS super pro and want to challenge your mind than this game if for you. You have two souls, the good and the bad. Same as two halves of one whole. Defeat them by going through doors to leave the house. Lots of spooks, some heart racing moments and creepiness ensues. The mini games are great. The hint however is not a typical hint button where it tells you the answer right away and poof you have it. It does over time tells you where it is. The Emptiness took me hours to finish, not in one sitting either, and it was so good to get to that point. Get this game if you think you can handle it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Anything but Empty I was beginning to despair ...so many games look and feel the same - dated illustration with HOP objects from the 80's and repetitive story lines. This is not one of those. It is different, the puzzles are relatively difficult and the hidden objects are spread over the game - not a cut scene and a list. I highly recommend this game for those who want a bit more of a challenge - more please Hooligan! Only thing I would have liked would be a map (unless I missed it!)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WOW! At last....... At last a truly challenging game which expects the player to use their brains, patience and keen eyesight, with no quick fixes and no hand-holding. I can see why it was put into the Hidden Object category, because the letters of the spells (or the words that open the doors) are hidden in the scenes. But that is where the similarity ends. This harkens back to the "good old days" when games were made deliberately tough. This like a cross between Myst and Realms of the Haunting. I am a couple of hours into it and cannot wait to see where it will take me. But I'm in no hurry, games like this are rare these days and I want to savour it! About the warnings for those with nervous disposition and weak hearts - well yes, things do leap out at you and will make you jump, so be warned. But as yet there is nothing truly gruesome. Also, there are choices in some of the side-games, you choose what you want to be. As the story unfolds I think that will be important - what you are will reflect the experience you have! Anyway....gotta go folks, I want to get back to the game. Thank you Big Fish for taking a chance on a developer with something new to offer sometimes game-weary players who long for something more than pretty pictures and all the answers upfront.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent game!!! At last we got something different for a change, not the same old HO! Give us more challenging games!!! There are a lot of people that have been playing for a long time and are tired of the same. Including me!!!!! I really won't buy more of old games, that is for sure!!! I really recommend this game
