Nancy Drew: Ghost of Thornton Hall is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 44.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Haunting and a Kidnapping? Better Call Nancy! Nancy is called in to find Jessalyn Thornton, and along the way she stumbles across another mystery in the Thornton family. Charlotte Thornton died mysteriously in a fire years ago, and it appears that her spirit is haunting Thornton Hall. Bonus points for the spook factor... Honestly, this is one of my favorite games in the Nancy Drew series so far. The story of Charlotte and the Thorntons, the "hauntings", and more... wow! It's another winner!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not Your Average Nancy Drew Game I've played almost every Nancy Drew game and this one, for me, started out slower than most of the others; it took me some time to figure out that I simply had to use an item on a door in order to make the game continue but once I figured that out, the rest flowed very well. I don't recall any other ND games that had the number of puzzles this one has and was pleasantly impressed by their originality and level of difficulty. The environments, as always, are beautifully done and quite scary in places. It always dismays me to read bad reviews that are written by people who are looking for games that offer a completely different format; Nancy Drew games are not comprised of hidden object scenes and the puzzles they incorporate are there as an important part of the challenge, so I, for one, am happy that the developers have never offered a Skip button; it's just good to know there are games tailored to players who enjoy the challenge. Having played this game, and The Deadly Device just before it, I'm hoping that Big Fish will soon be offering #32, Sea of Darkness. In the meantime, I'll be playing the few older games I haven't tried yet. Regards to all and Happy Gaming!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic, atmospheric, challenging, adventure! (NO HOPS) (Available at BFG since 2014) Wow! Just wow! This is the first Nancy Drew game I've played!! Extremely good atmosphere. Spooky from the start, but not scary. Just like a well-written book, you gradually get to know the characters and the plot thickens... Like other reviewers probably have mentioned, you really are at the helm in this game! It's 95% up to you. GRAPHICS:Full screen, not widescreen. Roam around the grounds of Thornton Hall on a spooky moonlit night! You WILL need full computer brightness. Not for anyone struggling with eyesight. SOUND:Spot on atmospheric sounds, and great voice-acting. Music is separate. All 3 volumes are separate. MOUSE MECHANICS: The center part of the magnifying glass will glow WHITE when there is something of significance that you should inspect further, or go back to later. It changes to a HAND to pick something up for your inventory. DIFFICULTIES: 2: Amateur or Master. Master level has no hints and limited tasks list. HOPS: NONE PUZZLES: You HAVE TO complete the puzzles, even in Casual (NO SKIP) . Maybe 10? Refer to a separate walkthrough source if necessary.Occasionally, with very tough puzzles, you are provided with an option for a "solution". This solution appears to you in the Task's list as an option. HINT: Limited, written hints, sometimes with increasing levels of clues for an item. But this is not always the case. You won't be led anywhere, or shown anything. Nothing sparkles. No hints at Master level. JOURNAL:You get a phone and can take photos instead of making physical, written notes. I found I had to have a notepad handy a couple of times. The journal next to the tasks list is very limited. Good to go back to if you've had a break from the game and need a recap. MAP:NONE INVENTORY: Stays visible at all times. CHARACTERS:I can't say enough good things about the characters! Wonderful acting, wonderful direction and expression of characters on the screen. Character interaction is a MUST in this game. ** Don't be put-off if you don't find the 'eggs.' ( I thought I had a computer game glitch, because the Youtube walkthrough showed an egg in the inventory!! Collecting the 3 eggs is just for fun, at least it doesn't prohibit the continuation of the game. Just so you know!**

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic mystery for Nancy Drew fans I've been playing Nancy Drew games for many months now, and I'm totally hooked on this series. "The Ghost of Thornton Hall" has lovely music and stunning graphics and effects--I couldn't believe how realistic some of the characters' faces are! Voice acting is truly superb. The game is a bit dark; you're always playing at night, which ups the spookiness. The storyline starts off a bit like "The Haunting of Castle Malloy" in that one member of an engaged couple has disappeared right before the wedding. But any similarities between the two games end there. This story involves a lot of dialogue toward the beginning, so I did find myself wanting to get on with things at first. However, it's a complex plot that does become quite interesting, so stick with it. Several subplots keep things mysterious. While "The Phantom of Venice" was a fabulous game, I was frustrated with some of the puzzles toward the end, such as the water towers (just frustrating) and the water pressure valves (very short timing). "The Ghost of Thornton Hall" is sufficiently challenging, but I did not need to consult a walkthrough even once, even as a master sleuth. That's partly due to my building experience with N.D. and partly due to excellent game and puzzle design. This is one Nancy Drew game you don't have to hesitate to buy. It's guaranteed good times. Unlike with some of the lamer editions, such as "Trail of the Twister" and "The Shattered Medallion," I was a bit sad when "The Ghost of Thornton Hall" ended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Realy great game! I loved this game. And didn't realize the strategy guide is in the list of things to do (lower right hand corner). So it's not so frustrating or costly as buying the strategy guide separately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Finally a real challenge to unravel Getting bored with the same old routines that so many of the 'adventure' (which are really just HOP games) offer? Then grab this complicated game. In the vain of Mystic, you navigate your way through a maze of rooms, doorways, tunnels, crypts and cellars talking to people and trying to figure out where to go next - or how to break the code on puzzles. There are NO HOPs - yay. This game could do with some serious editing - really laboursome dialogue and wordy books - again this is very Mystic in style and requires you to remember quite a bit. But they give you a camera phone - so use it! And the only other complaint is that the entire game is dark- I have trouble seeing it well on my small screen even with full bright levels turned on. I have had to refer to the walkthrough several times, which is annoying, but also representative of the level of challenge at Master level.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Haunting Experience Nancy Drew has been sent to Thornton Hall to solve a missing person case. Everyone has steered clear of this case because the manor is haunted. Jessalyn and her cousin spent the night in this family manor for a fun bachelorette party, now Jessalyn is missing. Is this a case of cold feet or cold dead ghosts? This is a very large file game, make sure your computer can handle this game due to the fact that there is no trial version available. This is NOT a hidden object game. This game requires you to solve the case by searching for clues, talking to family members and solving problems. You will have to read books, manuals and journals in order to complete certain tasks. You have a smartphone which will be used to call family members and people related to the case. There are two different modes of difficulty with the biggest difference being able to use hints. The tasks are added automatically such as finding a way to charge Jessalyn's phone. On the basic mode you are able to click on the question mark next to the task and ask for a hint, which will simply tell you the steps you need to take for that task but doesn't show you where the items are. This game has beautiful graphics, trying to navigate around can be difficult at times because of the 360 degree navigational system, but you will eventually catch on. I loved the different characters you meet, Colton in particular, they are lifelike and well detailed. When you are talking to a character, several options of questions are available and I usually ask all of the questions so I don't overlook a detail I might need later. You will receive an EMF reader to check different areas for strength of activity as well This isn't an easy game, but it is an adventure game with an exceptional story. If you are tired of the same ole games, give this game a try, enjoy!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Nancy Drew Game Yet! Amazing fun with this Nancy Drew game. I felt like this is one of the best storylines that Herinteractive has used. It is intriguing and creepy. The Puzzles aren't impossible like most Nancy Drew games but they are challenging. The location of the game is perfectly scary in the deep south. For the best game play, play in the dark at night! So spooky! I highly recommend this game!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another winner from the Nancy Drew series... Nancy Drew games games are almost a genre of their own. They are adventure heavy point and click and you will NOT find ANY H0S whatsoever in any of them. IMHO you must have patience and/or be in the mood to truly use the 'ole gray matter because there are no hints and they are not designed in the same manner as most BFG games, though there are strategy guides as well as walkthroughs online if you look for them via G@@gle. So, as you probably already know, Nancy is a young amateur detective who 'stars' in the series of games by HER Interactive #of course, most loosely based on Nancy Drew books#. Each game is unique unto itself. Personally I enjoy all of her games with few exceptions and this particular episode finds Nancy searching for answers in a haunted mansion where you #Nancy# have arrived to investigate the disappearance of a bride to be and heiress to the family business. There are so many unique and interesting puzzles and lots of 'chills' in store as you work you way through the mysterious challenges #including interrogation of suspects, solving puzzles, and discovering clues# in finding answers to determine the fate of the bride-to-be and figure out just who is telling the truth and whether there truly is, in addition, a true "haunting" occurring at Thornton Hall. I purchased and played this game as a 'boxed' PC-CD and I can tell you that BFG's price is WAY lower than retail and SO worth the price tag and effort in gameplay. If you are a Nancy Drew fan, or are willing to take on the challenge to become one, this is an episode you don't want to miss! Happy gaming ~ have fun! : )
