猫失踪事件に関する記事を仕上げたあと休暇のために故郷に戻ってきた雑誌記者のローラ。昔からの親友だったビルことウィリアムと待ち合わせをしたはずだが自宅に彼の姿はなかった…。新しくやってきた神父により、町の教会で開催される美術品オークションを住民たちは心待ちにしているようだが、何かが不自然だと感じたローラは姿を消したビルを探すために町中を捜索開始。昔なじみの住民たちから得られる手がかりを役立てて行方不明となった親友の行方を探そう！果たして教会のオークションとビルの失踪とは関係があるのだろうか！？
